Refuse & Recycling

Household Refuse Collection

TMBC provides each household with two large wheeled bins; one black lidded, one green lidded, plus a green box (no lid).

Green Containers:
In the green box you place paper, newspapers, magazines, telephone directories and (rinsed clean) food and drinks cans. The paper contents are recycled into paper.
In the green lidded bin you place food waste, garden waste and cardboard.  This is recycled into compost and sent to local farms.
Note: Cardboard, paper, cans & glass can also be placed in the Recycling Centre containers adjacent to the Village Hall.  This generates income for the village (over £1,570 raised in 2014/15)

Black Container:
All other waste goes into the black lidded bin which is incinerated to generate electricity.

Both the green box and the green bin are emptied one week, the black bin the following week. Place your bins at the boundary of your property by 7 a.m. on the morning of collection & remove your containers once they have been emptied.

Village Recycling Centre

The Recycling Centre in Burham village is provided / operated by: TMBC, KCC, The British Heart Foundation, D.S. Smith and Burham Parish Council. There are various containers for recycling unwanted items which are not collected from your premises, these include containers where you can recycle:

  • Glass: Green, Clear and Brown
  • Cans
  • Plastic: NB items numbered 1, 2, 4 and 5 only
  • Books and CDs
  • Cardboard and Paper: Please ensure cardboard is flattened prior to putting into the container so more can be fitted in, as there is a charge to Burham Parish Council of £25 each time the container is changed. Note also that both cardboard & paper is accepted even where the container says ‘no cardboard’.

The Recycling Containers are sited adjacent to the Village Hall. Please do not leave household rubbish or any other items in this area! Any items left are considered as fly tipping, details will be notified to TMBC who have the authority to issue a £400 fixed penalty notice. One has recently been issued for such an offence in Burham.
